Amaretto is a delicious liqueur with a strong almond flavour, however, the real stuff isn’t made with almonds at all. Check out this recipe at SeriousEats if you want to try and achieve the best results but we give you here a much simpler method that you can make in minutes. It will improve with ageing but it’s never lasted very long in our house.
Ingredients:
- 500ml Vodka
- 350ml Water
- 250g Granulated sugar
- 125g Dark brown sugar
- 2tbsp Almond extract
- 2tsp Vanilla extract
Method:
- Add everything into a clean jar or bottle.
- Put into a cool dark place.
- Shake the jar every day until the sugar has dissolved, alternatively heat the water and use that to dissolve the sugar. Allow the mixture to cool before adding to the other ingredients
- Decant into a clean bottle and test for taste. Add extra sugar if needed.
- Enjoy your Amaretto
Mark’s Top Tip: Amaretto is fantastic served ice cold by itself or added to brandy and Irish cream in equal quantities.
