Banana Liqueur

banana

In the UK we eat over 5 billion bananas a year (on average, that’s 100 bananas per person!) They are an excellent source of potassium and supply vitamin B6, fibre and carbohydrate, and some vitamin C so this liqueur will not only taste delicious but is good for you too!

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe, firm Bananas
  • 375ml White Rum
  • 125ml of Water
  • 65g of Sugar

Slow Method:

  1. Peel and slice the bananas then add to a Kilner Jar
  2. Add the Rum and shake to mix the contents
  3. Put into a cool dark place and leave for 3 days to allow the flavours to infuse
  4. Shake the jar every day until the sugar has dissolved
  5. After the three days, strain the fruit mixture and filter the liquid through a couple of layers of clean muslin. You may need to do this a couple of times as it’s important to remove any debris or particles that remain in the liquid as they can give an off flavour later on
  6. Make a simple sugar syrup by adding the water and sugar to a saucepan. Heat gently and bring to the boil, stirring regularly to make sure the sugar is fully dissolved. As it heats the mixture will thicken slightly to a syrupy texture. Allow to cool completely before using
  7. Put everything into a clean bottle and test for taste. Add extra sugar if needed
  8. Enjoy your Banana Liqueur
