How about making your very own squash, with a twist…
Ingredients:
- 700ml Vodka
- 250g Blackcurrants
- 200g Granulated sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
Slow Method:
- Wash the blackcurrants, pick them over for spoiled fruit and add to a 1l Kilner Jar.
- Add the sugar, cinnamon stick and Vodka.
- Put into a cool dark place and leave for 3 weeks.
- Shake the jar every day until the sugar has dissolved
- Strain into a clean bottle and test for taste. Add extra sugar if needed.
- Enjoy your Strawberry Vodka
Fast Method:
- Wash the blackcurrants, pick them over for spoiled fruit and add to a 1l Kilner Jar.
- Add the sugar, cinnamon stick and Vodka.
- Put into a water bath at 65°C for 3 hours.
- Strain into a clean bottle and test for taste. Add extra sugar if needed.
- Enjoy your Strawberry Vodka
Mark’s Top Tip: Stemming the fruit is optional, blackcurrant leaves and stems are often used for flavoring in many different foods and they’ll only add more tannin and depth to the liqueur. Once strained, the fruit is still edible and tastes great when served with ice cream.
