Blueberries are known to be a ‘Super Food’ so why not make a ‘Super Liqueur’? Then you don’t have to feel so guilty when drinking it!

Ingredients:

  • 700ml Vodka
  • 350 grams of Blueberries, frozen
  • 200g Sugar
  • 350ml Water

Slow Method:

  1. Thaw the blueberries. Once thawed fully the juices will be freeing themselves. Crush with the back of a spoon or fork and add to a Kilner Jar.
  2. Add the sugar and Vodka.
  3. Put into a cool dark place and leave for 3 weeks.
  4. Shake the jar every day until the sugar has dissolved
  5. After 3 weeks, or longer, separate out the solids and add the sugar syrup. Begin by boiling up the sugar and 350ml of water in a pan for several minutes ensuring it’s all dissolved, allow this syrup to cool.
  6. Using a fine strainer or sieve, filter out the blueberries from the liqueur into a clean jar. Once completely cooled add in the sugar syrup. Leave this for a further week.
  7. After this week is up, use a finer filter like a coffee filter paper or paper towel and strain into a clean bottle and test for taste. Add extra sugar if needed.
  8. Enjoy your Blueberry Liqueur

Fast Method:

  1. Thaw the blueberries and add to a Kilner Jar.
  2. Add the sugar and Vodka.
  3. Put into a water bath at 65°C for 3 hours.
  4. Strain into a clean bottle and test for taste. Add extra sugar if needed.
  5. Enjoy your Blueberry Liqueur

Mark’s Top Tip: For a spicy twist, try adding 2 cloves to the mix. The blueberries may lose some of their colour but can still be used as a great ice cream topping or you could make boozy muffins.
