Cranberry Rum

Did you ever go blackberry picking as a kid? Well, try this Blackberry Rum and you’ll realise that the pastime is not just for the kids or the crumble! If there are no blackberries or they are out of season, we have had good results with using frozen blackberries from the supermarket. Frozen forest fruits is another good alternative to try.

Ingredients:

  • 700ml Rum
  • 500g Blackberries
  • 200g Granulated sugar

Slow Method:

  1. Add the blackberries to a 1l Kilner Jar.
  2. Add the sugar and Rum.
  3. Put into a cool dark place and leave for 3 weeks.
  4. Shake the jar every day until the sugar has dissolved.
  5. Strain into a clean bottle and test for taste. Add extra sugar if needed.
  6. Enjoy your Bramble Rum

Fast Method:

  1. Add the blackberries to a 1l Kilner Jar.
  2. Add the sugar and Rum.
  3. Put into a water bath at 65°C for 3 hours.
  4. Strain into a clean bottle and test for taste. Add extra sugar if needed.
  5. Enjoy your Blackberry Rum

Mark’s Top Tip: Try substituting the Rum for Gin, Vodka, or Brandy. The blackberries are still edible and taste great when served with ice cream.
